As a PhD student at NYU, Washington Square Park is an integral part of my daily life. It is not only a beautiful public space but also a central gathering place for the university and the surrounding community. I walk through the park almost every day on my way to campus, meet friends there, and often pass through it after long days of research and teaching. Supporting the Washington Square Park Conservancy therefore feels very personal to me, because the park is essentially part of our campus and a place that contributes greatly to the quality of life of students, residents, and visitors.

Running the NYC Marathon for the Conservancy is a meaningful way to give back to a space that has become such an important part of my experience living and studying in New York. I strongly believe in preserving public spaces that bring communities together, and Washington Square Park is one of the most iconic and vibrant examples of that in the city.

I believe health, opportunity, and environment are deeply connected. Creating greener, healthier neighborhoods is one of the most powerful ways to support community wellbeing. As someone who values both personal endurance and collective impact, I’m excited to run in support of work that helps transform urban spaces into places where families, children, and future generations can thrive.

Washington Square Park has always felt like a small but powerful reflection of New York City itself. It’s a place where so many different communities, cultures, and expressions of the city come together in one shared space. Whether it’s musicians playing under the arch, students gathering between classes, families enjoying a sunny afternoon, or simply people watching from a bench, the park captures the energy and diversity that make NYC so special.

For me personally, the park is also a place of peace and reflection. In a city that moves quickly, it offers a moment to slow down and reconnect with the rhythm of the neighborhood. One of the traditions that has made it especially meaningful to me is attending annual Eid prayers in the park. Seeing thousands of people gather there in celebration and gratitude is a powerful reminder of how public spaces can foster community, belonging, and shared joy.

Running the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon with Team Washington Square Park Conservancy is deeply symbolic. The marathon itself celebrates the spirit of New York’s neighborhoods, and supporting the Conservancy allows me to give back to a place that embodies that spirit so beautifully. I’m honored to run in support of preserving and caring for a park that means so much to me and to so many others across the city.
