Park Open Studio: Printmaking with Tae Kim

Led by a local teaching artist, this drop-in class invites participants to explore creativity through hands-on artmaking under the shade of Scrabble Plaza’s trees. Past mediums have included plein-air drawing, printmaking, cyanotypes, and more. All materials are provided by WSPC.

This program is free and no registration is required.

About the Workshop:
These sessions introduce participants to the fundamentals of printmaking through accessible and hands-on techniques. Participants will explore basic printmaking tools, including carving blocks, carving tools, and rollers, while learning the process of transferring their designs onto paper.

Weeks 1 & 2: Exploring the Basics of Printmaking
Participants will learn and practice the basic skills and processes of printmaking. The focus will be on transferring a design onto a carving block and using carving tools to create a printed image.

Weeks 3 & 4: Exploring Multicolor Printmaking
Participants will learn how to create colorful prints using two or more colors. They will explore ways to layer and combine colors to create dynamic and expressive printed images.

About the Artist:
Tae is a New York-based art educator and artist. Her practice explores identity and human nature, and relationship through the fundamental characters of art materials and process. Her practice is grounded in an interest in human connection and increasingly extends into public space. Through The Portable Museum Project, an independent community-based initiative she founded, Tae experiments with how art can transform environments, open conversations, and foster meaningful relationships among people.
