September: you’ve got a friend in washington square park – friendship bracelets
Join local artist Rhonda Weppler for a unique community art-making experience in the Northwest Corner of the park. On Fridays throughout the month of September, participants will create and exchange their own friendship bracelets with notes of encouragement for neighbors and friends.
Rhonda Weppler was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to New York in 2015. She currently lives on Roosevelt island. She received her MFA from the University of British Columbia in 1999. Working primarily with sculpture, both on her own and in collaboration with Trevor Mahovsky, Rhonda has exhibited in galleries, museums and institutions internationally, including the LMCC Art Center on Govenors Island, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Vancouver Art Gallery, LABoral in Gijon, Dos de Mayo in Madrid, the Power Plant in Toronto, Musée d’art Contemporain in Montreal, Tokyo Wonder Site, loop-raum in Berlin, Palazzo delle Papesse in Siena and COCA in Seattle. She has completed several temporary and permanent public art works. Her work is represented in public collections including the Musée d’art Contemporain de Montreal and the National Gallery of Canada.
