Social Media Intern

Overview

The Washington Square Park Conservancy (WSPC) seeks a Social Media Intern to assist with the management of the organization’s various social media channels and other web-based communication streams. Working closely with the Community Relations Director, the Social Media Intern will ensure that WSPC maintains a cohesive and engaging online presence to promote the park’s events, programs, and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain weekly content calendars for WSPC’s social media accounts  (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) with compelling content that resonates with our audience
  • Create and curate high-quality multimedia content, including graphics, videos and photos
  • Attend WSPC programs and events in the park to capture photos and videos 
  • Monitor and respond to social media interactions, fostering a positive and engaging online community
  • Work with the Community Relations Director to analyze digital media metrics to measure the success of campaigns and strategies, and adjust tactics as necessary
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging across all digital channels
  • Update digital billboard in Washington Square Park

Qualifications:

  • Experience using various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube)
  • Experience working effectively with people of various backgrounds
  • Ability to take initiative, manage several projects at once, and multitask
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Google Suite (docs, sheets, slides, etc.)
  • Interest in nonprofit sector and/or public parks

Working Schedule

The internship runs for 12 weeks, June through August, with the possibility of extension. The internship will require 22 hours of work per week, Monday–Friday with occasional weekend days. Exact schedule, including start and end date, will be determined upon hiring. This position is hybrid, with the majority of your time working remotely and some work in the office/park.

Salary & Benefits

Compensation for this 12 week position is a stipend of $5,193.32.

About the Washington Square Park Conservancy

Washington Square Park is a beloved open space in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City. Spanning 9.75 acres, this iconic park with its signature arch and fountain is one of Manhattan’s most popular landmarks. The park serves many functions for a diverse usership, acting as a critical green space, village square, playground, mecca for music and art, a place for reading and contemplation, gym, campus quad, performance space, and more. The Washington Square Park Conservancy (WSPC) is a nonprofit organization working with NYC Parks and neighborhood groups to ensure that Washington Square Park continues as a diverse and historic urban green space through engaging volunteers and raising funds to help keep the park clean, safe and beautiful. WSPC was formed in 2012 by local leaders who saw a critical need for ongoing operational support, following the city’s $30 million capital renovation, in order to maintain its lawns and gardens, promote safety, and offer programming that serves a diverse community. WSPC is led by a full-time staff of five with oversight by a twenty-three member board of directors.

Community Programming Intern

Overview
The Washington Square Park Conservancy seeks a Community Programming Intern to work
closely with Conservancy and NYC Parks staff to support in-park programs, including fitness
classes, artist residencies, workshops, family programming, and more. The intern will be
responsible for program set-up and break-down and will assist with program promotion,
administrative tasks, and communications. In addition, the intern will work closely with regular
Park volunteers. This is primarily an in-park position.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Conservancy’s in-park programming, including setup and breakdown,
  • checking in and assisting participants, and answering questions from park visitors.
  • Represent the Conservancy at programming and other events.
  • Assist with community and corporate volunteer events as needed, and committed
  • volunteers on a weekly basis.
  • Collaborate with the Programs Coordinator with scheduling and Welcome Wagon stock.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Organized, proactive, and detail-oriented with good time management skills
  • Ability to represent the Conservancy during programs and talk to park visitors about the
  • mission and role of the organization
  • Interest in and passion for parks and/or the nonprofit sector


Work Schedule
The fellowship runs for approximately weeks, beginning in May and concluding in late
September (approximately 22 weeks). The fellowship will require approximately 22 hours of
work per week, Monday-Friday with some weekend days possible through the season. Due to
the nature of the role, hours and schedule may be adjusted week to week, with compensatory
time off given. Exact schedule, including start and end date, will be determined upon hiring.
Schedule (subject to change):
Mondays 11:30am-3:30pm
Tuesdays 6pm-8:30pm
Wednesdays 8am-3:30pm
Thursdays 2:30pm-8:30pm
Fridays 8am-10am

Compensation
Compensation will be $9442.40 based on the above schedule with compensatory time included.
