Washington Square Park matters.

You know better than anyone: Washington Square Park matters. The park is the heartbeat of New York City and a vibrant gathering space for people from all different backgrounds.
The Washington Square Park Conservancy works alongside NYC Parks, community partners, and dedicated supporters like you to care for this iconic place. And this year, thanks to your support, the Conservancy is celebrating many accomplishments you can see and feel every time you’re in the park.
As 2025 comes to a close, I’m excited to share some wins our team is proud of:
A More Vibrant Park. With more than 10,000 attendees at our free public programs this year, we facilitated more art workshops, new walking tours, expanded morning yoga classes, and more. We also welcomed 500 volunteers to help keep the park clean and green.
A Well Cared For Park. We completed the installation of new benches, overhauled the plumbing in the park’s bathrooms, and introduced over 2,000 climate-adapted plants to the park’s gardens. We also continue to fund the talented folks who make the park better each day: two gardeners, eight maintenance staff, a Playground Associate, and six Parks Enforcement Patrol officers.
A Safer Park. The Conservancy played a key role in the Village Interagency Task Force, a multi-agency effort to make Washington Square Park and the surrounding neighborhood safer for all. In October, the City announced the conclusion of a federal investigation and the assignment of 68 NYPD officers to the 6th Precinct, including at the park. Supporters like you helped the Conservancy bolster this work to ensure the park is safer and more inviting by funding new plantings, hosting free events, marshaling community dollars, and raising public awareness.
The work doesn’t stop here. We’re keeping the momentum going in 2026, and we need your help. Will you make a gift by December 31 to help bolster these efforts into next year and beyond?
Support from park lovers like you is what keeps Washington Square Park vibrant, and investing locally in our New York City greenspaces is more critical now than ever.
As we look ahead, your support is essential to sustaining everything that makes Washington Square Park a welcoming place for all. Please consider making a year-end gift. Your generosity today ensures that the park you love continues to thrive – season after season, year after year. Thank you for being a vital part of this community.
I hope to see you in the park soon,
Will Morrison
Executive Director & NYC Parks Administrator
P.S. Every gift, of any size, makes a real difference in keeping Washington Square Park vibrant and cared for. Thank you for your continued dedication to this special place.
