An Update from the Executive Director

On June 30, the Washington Square Park Conservancy wrapped up its latest fiscal year strong thanks to the support of community members like you. The park is as alive with activity as it’s ever been, with Conservancy-organized free public programs enlivening the plazas, visitors basking in the summer sun on the lawns and benches, and the many gardens flourishing with summer colors.
With help from our community partners and dedicated supporters, we were able to partner with NYC Parks to launch, complete, and expand a multitude of projects this past year to help improve this invaluable greenspace that is central to our community:
- In partnership with the Mayor’s Office, Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, government agencies, local community organizations, and committed volunteers, we helped launch the Village Interagency Task Force, which addresses quality-of-life issues in the northwest corner of the park and nearby affected areas.
- We completed the installation of new benches, overhauled the plumbing in the bathrooms, and introduced more than 2,000 native and climate-adapted plants to the park.
- We increased the number of free, public programs available each week in the park, including more art workshops, new birdwatching tours with NYC Bird Alliance, additional pop-ups from Street Lab, expanded morning yoga classes, and more!
This is only the beginning of what we were able to accomplish with the support of our dedicated community. Over the next few weeks, we are so excited to share more of our wins from the past year to celebrate all we have done together.
There is much to look forward to this year, and we are thrilled to have you join us in this incredible journey of stewarding our beloved Washington Square Park.
See you in the park,

Will Morrison
Executive Director of the Washington Square Park Conservancy &
NYC Parks Administrator of Washington Square Park
