Plan Your Season in Washington Square Park

April 8 2025

Washington Square Park is warming up, and so is our calendar! We are thrilled to announce the return of our full slate of free public programming for 2025. From hands-on volunteer opportunities to art workshops, birding walks to music classes, this season will bring something for everyone to enjoy under the trees and in the heart of the city. Offerings vary each day and week, so keep an eye on our website for a full calendar of events or sign up for our email list to have updates sent directly to your inbox. And check out a sneak peek of this year’s roster of programs below!

Quiet(er) Mornings

There’s nothing like early morning in Washington Square Park. Things are a little bit quieter. The trees cast just enough shade to keep things cool. You can hear the splash of the fountain and the hum of the city all around. It’s the perfect environment to try a Wednesday or Friday yoga class, or Tuesday’s Adult & Senior movement class in Garibaldi Plaza to start your day with joyful movement. For kids, our popular Tuesday morning storytime with Hudson Park Library will be back under the trees. And for anyone looking to give back to your park, our weekend community clean ups are returning on second Saturdays – the perfect pre-brunch activity.

Bustling Afternoons

If a bright afternoon under the sun is more your vibe, afternoons in Washington Square Park are full of activity. Stopping by a free program during this golden stretch of day feels like stepping into the rhythm of the city itself. Learn how to toss a boule on the pétanque court with our friends from La Boule New Yorkaise on Mondays or Wednesdays. Under the watchful eye of the Holley monument you’ll find various activities at Street Lab’s open air studio as they rotate their activities on Tuesdays through the season. Or try your hand at a new artistic practice at the shaded tables of Scrabble Plaza – now taking place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. If you’re a kid, the large playground is full of creative crafts to inspire you, with weekly visits from Miss Debbie on Wednesdays and the Portable Museum project on Thursdays. And new to the park this season is a Thursday afternoon volunteering opportunity on the third Thursday of each month.

Explorative Evenings

As the sun starts to dip behind the buildings and the light softens across the park, something special happens in Washington Square Park. The energy shifts; people linger a little longer on the benches and walk a little slower along the paths. Depending on the night, you might stumble across a jazz concert or a theatrical performance. Tuesday evenings are eternally fascinating thanks to weekly visits from the Museum of Interesting Things. On Wednesdays, back by very popular demand, you’ll find the biggest salsa party in town, hosted by our friends at Mi Salsa Dura NY. And you can bask in some old New York nostalgia with the incredible talented Double Dutch Aunties, who are out to teach you the ropes every Thursday.

The full 2025 season schedule will be live in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more updates! Want a sneak peek at what a week in the park will look like this summer? Here’s a glimpse at a weekly calendar!*
