A Message from WSPC’s Executive Director

May 5 2023

My fellow Parkies,

For over two years, it has been my pleasure to serve as first Deputy and then Administrator for Washington Square Park. This iconic green space is near and dear to my heart, and being part of the city’s effort to maintain it has been fulfilling, challenging, and thus far the great joy of my public service career.

Along with the Board of Directors and the dedicated staff, I am excited to announce that I have been named Executive Director of the Washington Square Park Conservancy. The position is a “dual role,” which allows me to serve as leadership for both NYC Parks and the Conservancy for Washington Square Park. It is a role that directly embodies the public-private partnership model that exists so well here in New York City at many of the flagship parks across our collective urban green space.

I am honored to have been chosen to lead this organization and am excited to formally join the Conservancy team after years of working alongside them in my NYC Parks capacity. I will continue to be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Park while simultaneously leading the Conservancy to ensure the long-term sustainability and success of both programs. I look forward to further strengthening this decade-long partnership and bringing even more resources and support to our beloved Park. I am excited to continue building on the initiatives that the Conservancy staff and board implemented during my time as Deputy and Administrator. Now part of the Conservancy, I look forward to increasing the team so there are even more hands hard at work for WSP.

With summer fast approaching, I am eager to be more deeply involved in the rollout of new programming and volunteer initiatives from the planning side. You can catch our Artist Residency in the NW corner, keep an eye out for our new volunteer program, the Washington Sq. Waterers, and welcome back old favorites like Salsa Social and Dances for a Variable Population. For information on more events keep an eye on www.washingtonsqpark.org/events throughout the season.

I want to express my gratitude to the Conservancy Board for their trust and confidence in me to lead this vital organization. I am honored to work with such a dedicated group, committed to preserving and enhancing this iconic park.

In my time at Washington Square Park I have had the pleasure of meeting many in this community already, and my expanded role will provide me the opportunity to get to know even more of you. I don’t have to tell you that Washington Square Parkies are wildly passionate. It is your continued support and dedication to the Park that keeps it thriving. Your engagement and advocacy have been critical to our success, but there is so much more to do. I look forward to working closely with all of you to ensure that Washington Square Park remains a vibrant and inclusive space for generations to come.

Thank you for your continued support. See you at the Park!
