Ancestral Remembrance and Celebration
– June 22 2024
SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 10:00AM-3:00PM
GARIBALDI PLAZA
Conceived of by Washington Square Park Conservancy Board Member Lydia Carlston and with support from New York University, come gather with neighbors, community members, and villagers at Garibaldi Plaza on Saturday, June 22nd at 10 am for a celebration and remembrance of the Africans, enslaved and free, who lived around and farmed the land of Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village that was once known as “Little Africa.” Long lost but not forgotten, we will honor their memory through joyous music, dance, and storytelling. We encourage you to enjoy the celebration anywhere in the plaza from the benches behind Garibaldi to the lawns behind the stage, but there will also be a limited amount of seating on a first come first serve basis.
