Every Saturday 1:00-3:00pm
NW Corner

(June’s residency will take place the first four Saturdays only)

Spend a Saturday afternoon learning a variety of artistic practices from a rotating group of incredibly talented local creators! Residencies change month to month, see below for details.

June: People in the Park: Portrait Sculpture Workshop with Rhonda Weppler

Who doesn’t want a mini me! Join June’s resident artist, Rhonda Weppler, for her “People in the Park” project, which invites you to make a mini portrait of yourself or a loved one using non-toxic materials. First, learn the basics of portrait sculpting using air dry clay. Put the finishing touches on your portrait using watercolor paints and tools. Your sculpture is free to take home with you to keep, while an image of it will become part of an artist’s book recording all the portraits made over the course of the residency.

Rhonda Weppler was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to New York in 2015. She currently lives on Roosevelt island. She received her MFA from the University of British Columbia in 1999. Working primarily with sculpture, both on her own and in collaboration with Trevor Mahovsky, Rhonda has exhibited in galleries, museums and institutions internationally, including the LMCC Art Center on Govenors Island, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Vancouver Art Gallery, LABoral in Gijon, Dos de Mayo in Madrid, the Power Plant in Toronto, Musée d’art Contemporain in Montreal, Tokyo Wonder Site, loop-raum in Berlin, Palazzo delle Papesse in Siena and COCA in Seattle. She has completed several temporary and permanent public art works. Her work is represented in public collections including the Musée d’art Contemporain de Montreal and the National Gallery of Canada.
