Dog Runs

Attention all Washington Square Park friends, we have an important announcement! For the furrier among you, that’s: woof, woof, bark woof, ruff, BARK.
After sixteen years of service on behalf of our beloved dog runs, the volunteer Washington Square Dog Run Association (DRA) is making a change. Going forward, the services provided by the DRA will be folded into the broader operations of the Washington Square Park Conservancy (WSPC). This will ensure that the runs continue to be robustly supported by philanthropic efforts from the neighborhood, while allowing the resources of the larger organization to better serve the growing needs of these heavily utilized spaces.

Currently the DRA stewards a small but mighty group of on-the-ground volunteers, fundraises to stock the runs with necessary tools and supplies, and pays for larger maintenance services when required. With input from the dog community, WSPC intends to streamline procedures to make it easier to volunteer, provide fundraising support for needed improvements at the runs, and keep them clean and functional for all. And don’t worry, the beloved Dog Halloween event isn’t going anywhere! In fact, we’re hoping to have even more great community events for you to come together with your fellow pets.
In the coming weeks you may notice some small changes as we begin to transfer responsibilities, but nothing should change about the day-to-day function of the runs. If you have any questions, please reach out to dogruns@washingtonsqpark.org, a dedicated address for communications about the runs. And check back here regularly for run-specific updates.
See you in the BARK, oops we mean park, woof.
