Films on the Green: Interstella 5555
Returning in July with a special hybrid season, Films on the Green (a WSPC Community Arts Grantee) is excited to announce the 13th edition of their film festival with an exciting lineup of international cinema. With the theme “Music & Cinema,” the festival is bringing a world music tour to the New York City area with free screenings in Manhattan parks and online for the first time!
On the schedule at Washington Square Park is Interstella 5555. The movie follows an unscrupulous music executive and his lackey kidnap a blue-skinned alien techno band, rob them of their identities, pass them off as human, and foist them on an unsuspecting public on Earth. After their arrival and their impact on the human population, the members of the band try to piece back their identities, escape from the clutches of the evil music executive, and return to their own world. Daft Punk’s music meets Leiji Matsumoto’s designs for this animated musical.
All screenings —subtitled in English—, are free and open to the public, but capacity and ticket availability will be limited due to COVID-19 safety and capacity guidelines.
On-site registration required. All attendees must wear a face-covering per NYC Parks regulations.
