Volunteer Spotlight: Greeter
If you love local history and meeting new people, Washington Square Park is where you want to be. It’s teeming with folks from all walks of life, and the very ground is steeped in history that stretches back far past the founding of this city. The Park’s greeters and guides thrive in this environment; sharing their knowledge and interacting with visitors and locals alike. Applications for the greeter program are open now!
Having gone through greeter training and his first season as a Park greeter, Harry now sees himself as a bonafide Park insider. “I learned so much about the history of Washington Square Park and everything that’s happened there that I just never knew before.” He’s excited to take the more advanced tour guide training this season, where he’ll craft his own specialized tour to give in the Park. It’ll be another way for him to interact with people, since his favorite part about volunteering is getting to talk with Park users.
It’s people like Harry that help keep the tradition of Washington Square Park alive. “This Park needs people to support it. Somebody needs to step in and do these things. I have the time and energy, and it’s a way to give back that also makes me happy.”
