10 Reasons to Love WSP

February 9 2022

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and love is in the air at Washington Square Park. In honor of WSPC’s 10 Year Anniversary, we’re sharing our reasons for loving WSP.

1. The way the fountain glows in summer sunlight – Park Caretaker, Donald

Park Caretaker, Donald, loves the quiet of an early morning in Washington Square Park and the way the sunlight shines on the fountain, making the water glow.

2. The sounds of children laughing and playing – Playground Associate, Miss Debbie

It’s no surprise that Miss Debbie loves the sounds of children laughing and playing in the Park. She’s often the cause of their mirth! WSPC is proud to fund her position and the activities she hosts in the Park for kids.

3. The spontaneity and culture – Maintenance Worker, Yvonne

Maintenance worker Yvonne loves the free spirit of the Park. You never know when something exciting will happen!

4. My coworkers – Maintenance Worker, Saul

Always the team player, Maintenance Worker Saul’s favorite thing about the Park is the people he works alongside to keep it clean. It’s not an easy job, and we’re always grateful for their hard work. Did you know that WSPC funds 5 of the full-time staff at the Park?

5. The Vast History – Sheryl & Grace

History buffs Sheryl (WSPC Deputy Director) and Grace (WSPC Community Relations Director) are endlessly enamored with the iconic moments and incredible people that have made their mark on WSP. Being in the Park is like standing in a piece of living history.

6. The Pollinators – Head Gardener, Gui

Small but mighty, the Park’s pollinators are an integral part of its ecosystem. As Head Gardener, Gui has a special soft-spot for the Park’s littlest horticulture staff. Did you know that in July, WSPC secured native bee houses to make WSP’s pollinator population more comfortable?

7. The Music History – Maintenance Worker, DeAndre

Music buff and Maintenance Worker, DeAndre, loves the musical history of the Park. Walking the same pathways as musical greats like The Mama’s & Papa’s always makes his day.

8. The People Watching – Volunteer Coordinator, Maggie

Pick a spot on a lawn or a bench and watch the crowds for hours of endless entertainment. There’s nothing that WSPC Volunteer Coordinator, Maggie, loves more.

9. The Volunteers – Gardener Dwayne

Clean up volunteers hard at work
Gardener Dwayne loves working with the Park’s eager and enthusiastic volunteers (as seen above). He’s always ready with a smile and a hot tip on the best way to rake or weed.

10. ALL OF YOU! – All of us

Washington Square Park would be nothing without the people who love it (aka…YOU!). We love your love of this iconic Park and are always so grateful for your support.
